More than four decades after his death in 1981, Bob Marley remains one of the most influential musicians in popular culture. In 2024, his life reached the big screen with Bob Marley: One Love, a biographical drama exploring an important period in his personal and musical journey. Making a film about such a celebrated figure came with enormous expectations, but the production had something particularly valuable on its side: direct involvement from the Marley family.

Bob's eldest son, Ziggy Marley, served as a producer on the film and became closely involved with the filmmaking process. Lashana Lynch took on the equally significant role of Rita Marley, Bob's wife, musical collaborator and member of the I Threes, who provided backing vocals for Bob Marley and the Wailers. Ziggy praised Lynch's performance and felt that she and Ben-Adir worked effectively together. Their portrayals allowed the film to explore not only Marley's public success but also the relationships surrounding the man behind the music.

At its heart, Bob Marley: One Love attempts to preserve the humanity behind an extraordinary cultural legacy. Marley may have become a worldwide symbol of reggae, but his own perspective remained closely connected to the idea of music belonging to ordinary people. Ziggy's participation helped keep that personal dimension within the production.
