Diamonds, Cinema and Glamour: Chopard’s Iconic Cannes Legacy

In 2022, the Cannes Film Festival celebrated two major milestones at once. It marked the seventy fifth edition of the famous festival while also celebrating twenty five years of partnership with luxury jewelry house Chopard. The relationship between Cannes and Chopard originally began when creative director Caroline Scheufele redesigned the festivals iconic Palme dOr trophy, transforming it into one of cinemas most recognisable awards. To honour the double anniversary in 2022, Scheufele introduced a special commemorative version of the trophy while carefully preserving the classic design audiences already associated with Cannes prestige and cinematic excellence. She explained that the core structure of the Palme remained unchanged because certain designs become timeless and should not be altered dramatically. Instead, subtle additions created a celebratory version for that year alone. One palm leaf featured seventy five diamonds representing the festivals anniversary, while another displayed twenty five diamonds symbolising Chopard’s partnership with Cannes, creating a combined total of one hundred diamonds. Another noticeable change involved replacing the trophies traditional clear quartz base with rose quartz, chosen because Scheufele associated the pink stone with love and emotional warmth. She described the redesign as a symbolic tribute to cinemas enduring relationship with beauty, creativity, and artistic passion. Beyond the trophy itself, Chopard also unveiled a massive red carpet jewelry collection inspired by cinema history and designed specifically for the anniversary celebrations. The project reflected how luxury fashion and international film culture have become deeply interconnected through glamorous festivals, celebrity appearances, and artistic collaboration. Through diamonds, gemstones, and symbolic design choices, Chopard transformed the Cannes anniversary into both a cinematic and luxury fashion celebration admired worldwide today.

Caroline Scheufele explained that the inspiration behind Chopard’s 2022 red carpet collection came directly from the history of cinema itself. The collection featured seventy five individual jewelry pieces in honour of the festivals seventy fifth edition, with each creation influenced by famous films and cinematic storytelling. According to Scheufele, the design process began after discovering a book describing the thousand greatest movies ever made. From there, her creative team developed far more ideas than they could actually include, eventually narrowing the final selection to seventy five pieces that captured the emotional and artistic spirit of cinema. The collection highlighted how closely Chopard identifies itself with the glamour and mythology surrounding the Cannes Film Festival after decades of partnership. Scheufele admitted that reaching twenty five years connected to Cannes felt surreal because the time had passed so quickly, yet she described returning to the festival each year as deeply meaningful. Over time, Chopard evolved from a sponsor into one of the defining luxury symbols associated with the event itself. The company regularly dresses major celebrities in custom jewelry for premieres, red carpet appearances, and award ceremonies, helping shape the visual identity of modern Cannes culture. This collaboration also demonstrates how luxury brands increasingly use international film festivals as global showcases for artistry, exclusivity, and craftsmanship. Rather than functioning purely as commercial sponsorship, the Chopard and Cannes relationship became a long term artistic partnership combining cinema, jewelry design, celebrity culture, and fashion spectacle.
